(Received Dec. 16, at 5.5 p.m.) A message from Chicago states that 12 persons were frozen to death in a snowstorm which swept the entire South-West, where the climate is semi-tropical ,and snow rare. The blizzard, which was accompanied by high winds, did most damage in Texas and New Mexico, bringing to a halt rail and motor traffic and disrupting communications. Rescue parties have been organised to dig out iz snowbound motors containing 200 passengers, who have been stranded for 12 hours. Meanwhile the severe cold wave has been progressing eastward, penetrating even Florida, which is a renowned winter resort. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
