MELBOURNE POLICE STRIKERS. SYDNEY ASSOCIATION UNSYMPATHETIC. Press Association—By Telegraph— Copyright - SYDNEY, December 10. The Police Association refused to listen to a deputation from the Victorian police. While the association sympathised with their grievances, it disagreed with the action of striking. It agreed to permit voluntary subscriptions to be sent to the strikers for their assistance. THEFT OP JEWELLERY. Mr Theodore, in addressing the Trades and Labour Council, explained that because of the economic consequences the Government had been unable to introduce a uniform 44-honr week. There were already 143 awards in force prescribing 44 hours, which would be reduced by another four if such legislation was enacted. He urged the unions to approach the Arbitration Court, and to demonstrate that the existing production would be maintained if the hours were reduced, and to achieve their object in that direction. j
