The workmen at i ] a depth of 6ft found large columns of j white marble. Ignorant of tbciv archso- I ] logical value, the men considerably injured j 1 the columns in the course of their work, ] and even allowed people to carry off por- ; ’ tions of them. Two well-preserved marble ; i tablets were also found, bearing finely- i i carved reliefs—the heads of six Greek | ] gods. . i The Archaeological Society at Belgrade is : i trying to recover the missing portions of j the columns, in order to reconstruct the ; ) temple as far as possible. The society , . has already unearthed an enormous vase, < in which two men can stand, besides many p human bones and large quantities of an- ■ cient coins.—The Times. (
