FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

There was a largo attendance of members at the last meeting of Court Pride of the. Leith, A.0.F., the C.R., Bro. H. C. Williamson presiding. Official visits were received from the Courts Pride of Dunedin and Enterprise. One new member was admitted and four others nominated. The toast of “The Visitors” was responded to by P.C.R. Bro. >S. Brettgll, on behalf of Court Enterprise, and P.C.R. Bro. R. J. Frame responded for Court Pride of Dunedin. J'oPowing the close of the meeting a “mock trial” was held, which gave much amusement. “Samuel Shandy” (Bro, Bennett) was charged with sly grog-selling on November 5, and was defended by “Lawyer Macphorson” (Bro. H. C. Williamson). Bro. C. W. Welch took the part of Crown Prosecutor, and Bro. J. F. Burrows made a good judge. Other members taking part were Bro. W. .T. Duncan (clerk of court), “Sergeant Drinkwator” (Bro. J. Bonfell), “Detective Broadbeg” (Bro. Davison). Witnesses for the defence were “George Sonkotn” (Bro. G. Harbrow). “David Drinkitup” (Bro. D. Adams),. “Joseph Penfold” (Bro. Skinner), “George HowW (Bro. Hawes), “Claud Porksausage”. (Bro. Vcrcoe), and “Jerry Bookworm” (BVb. Terry). The cross-examinations ' caused considerable mirth, likewise the addresses to the jury and the summing up by the judge. The prisoner was found “Very guilty,” and sentenced to perform good work for the Court for a long period. There was a large attendance on quarter night at Pride of Mornington Lodge amongst the visitors being P.G.P, Bro. Jacobson, D.P. Bro. Wilson, P.A. Bro. Workman, Enterprise; Bro. Fowler, Star of Plgmoni; and Bro. M'Leah, of Otago. Consideration of the medical. officers’ applications .was deferred till next lodge night. The following officers were electedA.D., Bro. Watt; V.A., Bro. Thomson; Secretory, Bro. Birt (re-elected): Treasurer, Bro. A. Jelloy (re-elected); 1.G., Bro. Jones; O. Bro. Napier; A.D.8., Bro. A. E. Robertson and Bro. Bartlett; V.A.8., Bros. Sinclair and Anderson; M.C., Bro. Oliver; G.L. Representative, Bro. . Oliver; G.L. Substitute, Bro. Watt, Nominations were called for D.P., and Bro. Clark was nominated , from Pride of Mornington. The toasts were honoured and responded to by the visiting brethren. A new member was proposed, and the Social Committee completed details for the children’s night The half-yearly meeting of Enterprise Lodge was ■well attended, and was presided over by A.D. Bro. Johnston. Two candidates were initiated. The election of officers resulted as followsA. D.. Bro. A. Welsh; V.A., Bit). C. Johnston; Secretary, Bro. R. M. Laing (re-elected); Treasurer, Bro. G. Alexander (re-elected); 1.G., Bro. Pi. Gubbins; 0.G., Bro. J. Laing; A. Bros. Workman and M'Farlano; V.A.8.. Bros. MTlouald and Coates; M.C., P. Bro. W. Robertson; Pianist, Bro. J. B. Welsh; G.L. Representatives, Bros. R. M. Laing and G. Alexander; Substitutes. Bros. A. Ockwell and J. P. Rees; D.P. of No. 2 district nominations, J. Clark, of Pride of Mornington, and T. A. Workman (Enterprise). Official visits were paid by the D.P. of No. 2 district. Pro. Wilson and P.A. Bro. Oliver, of Pride of Mornington. The usual loyal toasts were duly honoured and responded to by Bros. Wilson and Oliver.

The quarterly mealing of the Royal Oak Lodge was hold on Monday, November 26, A.D. Tiro. C. Hudson presiding over a largo attendance of' members. U.P. Bro. Wilson attended the meeting officially, and was received with the usual honours. The election of officers resulted as follows: A.D., Bro. W. Page; V.A.. Bro. Hunt; Secretary, Bro. A. K. Churchill (re-elected) ; Treasurer, Bro. A. Mitchell (re-elected); I. Bro. W. A. Hudson; 0.G., Bro. W. Orchard: A.U.8.. Bros. W. Dickinson and J. Osmond; V.A.8., Bros. Rennie and J. Robertson ; Minute Secretary, Bro. W. Hudson (re-elected); M.C., Bro. G. Swann, sen. The election of Grand Lodge Representatives was hold over until next lodge meeting. P.A. Bro. Clark (Pride of Morningtonl and P.A. Bro. Workman (Enterprise Lodge) were duly nominated for the position of D.P. No. 2 district.
