HERE, THERE, AND EVERYWHERE.
GENUINE “TRAMP” STEAMER. (From Odh Own Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, November 30. Exactly answering the description of a “tramp” is the steamer Monodrock, which has arrived at Auckland from Java. It is 19 months since the vessel sailed for England, and during that time she has carried a variety of cargoes between ports in different parts of the globe. She left Cardiff on May 4. 1922, and first visited -Mauritius. Afterwards she proceeded to Durban, Aden, Calcutta, Buenos Ayres. Santos, Rosario, New York. Philadelphia, Manilla, Hong Kong, Swatow, Shanghai, Karatsu, Tanru Island, Sydney ? Fremantle,. Newcastle, Batavia, Pekatongan, Samarang, Panaruhan, and Auckland. Since the vessel left Cardiff she has covered 60,500 miles. It is not stated what the Monodrock’s future movements are to be, but it will probably be many months before she reaches England again. Her crew were signed on at Cardiff for two years, and the articles have only five months to run. It is doubtful if the vessel will have returned to England by that time. Whether she has or not. the crew can claim their discharge when two years have expired. The Monodrock’s crew number 42 all told. The captain, officers, and stewards are white, and tho remaining 30 of the crew are Chinamen.
