HIGH SCHOOLS’ MATCHES. OTAGO v. WAITAKI. The annua! matches between (be first and second elevens of the Otago and Waitaki High Schools weie commenced at Carisbrook yesterday in beautiful weather, and on fast wickets. In the first, eleven match the batting was very slow at the start, only 10 rims being scored in the first hour. Otago, who batted first, had two wickets down for two runs and three for 20, but Wilson and Young put a different complexion on the game, and at the luncheon adjournment, after two hours’ batting, the score was four for 63 (Young not out 191. Ai this stage there had not been one bye scored, Elmslie (who had. then caught two men), shaping well behind the wickets. On resuming at 2 o'clock Young scored ' well all round the wicket, and carried his score to 57 before he fell to a yorkcr from D. Blundell. He hit seven fours. Y'oung gave a couple of chances in the morning—a caicli behind the wickets and a catch in the field. The innings closed at 4 o'clock, the Otago batsmen having been four hours, at the wickets. D. Blundell, a mediumfast bowler, bore the brunt of the attack, and finished op with the excellent average of six wickets for 43 runs.
