DUNEDIN GARDENING CLUB.
The fortnightly meeting of iho Dunedin Gardening Club was held on Tuesday evening, when Mr J. W. MTnivre gave an interesting and instructive talk on the native plants that were in bloom at the present time, and showed speiimcns of quite a large number, many of which were rare and beautiful. The president (Mr Hollingworlh) gave a short address on what to do and what to sow at the present time in the vegetable garden. There were- on exhibition some fine specimens of pansies, antirrhinums, geums, elc., also some spikes of the Mount Cook lily, Ranunculus Lyalii. By request, the Secretary explained that the Ranunculus Lyalii plant, from which the flowers came, wore grown on a made-up hank ' consisting of the decomposed sandy rclck familiar to Beiieknowos district, and on the shady side, of the house. The plant received no cultivation, but was very vigorous, and had eight good spikes of bloom some 30 inches high.
