J. GREGORY INJURED.

MAY NOT PLAY AGAIN THIS I SEASON,

In these days of lukewarm interest in the game it is something new to have to issue a warning note against the danger of overexertion in athletic exercises. It will be learned with extreme regret that Jack Gregory, the New South Wales fast bowler, has met with an injury- to one of his legs, which, it is feared, may interfere witn bis cricket career.

Gregory, who played a prominent part in the test matches against the last Englisn team, and with the 1921 Australian Eleven, did not play cricket of a serious character last season, as he was living in the country. A few months ago, however, he returned to Sydney, and took part in several lawn tennis tournaments. He then settled down in Manly, and has played in the opening matches of this season with the Manly team, with whom he has performed sensationally. Last Saturday week he hit up a brilliant century for his team, and followed this up by taking nine wickets in the first innings of his opponents lor 24 runs.

Now it is announced that while playing tennis some time ago Gregory displaced a cartilage in one of his legs, and the trouble has developed seriously. An X-ray examination was to have been made on October 16, and upon the result depended the question of whether he will have to undergo an operation. If he does, it is hardly likely that he. will play cricket again this season, while his whole career as a cricketer may be affected.
