RED CROSS SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the Red Cross Society was attended by the Rev. V, G. Bryan King (chairman). Miss'* Williams, Miss Graham, Messrs E. A. Rosevear, C. B. Smith, and C. Speight. A letter of acknowledgment was received from an ex-soldier for blankets and clothing supplied. Issues of blankets to two other exsoldiers were approved. The matron at Wakari wrote requesting outfits of clothing for two soldier patients lately admitted lo the sanatorium. Miss Williams reported having had parcels forwarded. The action was confirmed. The Chairman reported that, in accordance with his promise at the last meeting, he had secured a number of books wanted and had forwarded them to Wakari. A letter was received from headquarters, Wellington, in reference to prolonging the appointment of the Rev. Air Mullineux. Red Cross agent at Calais. The Wellington Committee had resolved that it be a recommendation to the New Zealand Executive to continue the grant in view of the approaching Empire Exhibition, when it is anticipated numerous visitors from the dominion wilt be desirous of availing themselves of the services of the Red Cross agent in visiting- the war graves area. The chairman stated that as an immediate answer was desired, and anticipating the feeling of tho Dunedin Executive, he had instructed the secretary to write, advising headquarters that they could count on Dunedin supporting the above, resolution. On the motion of Mr Rosevear, seconded by Miss Williams, the chairman’s action was confirmed. The case of a certain ex soldier was mentioned, as it was thought that the Red Cros s might he able to render some special assistance. It was resolved that tho matter bo left in the hands of the Rev. V. G. Bryan King and Mr Smith. Miss Williams reported that, the soldier patients at the Dunedin Hospital had been visited, and various comforts had been provided for them. In regard to returned men generally. Miss Graham said that she knew that a member of the committee, having the cause of the men at heart, had, on occasion, had recourse lo private funds. On the motion of ' Miss Graham it ■ was resolved that authority be given to provide certain extras in special cases. The Matron at Montedllo reported that during tho month three patients had been admitted and three discharged. There were at present 29 patients in the home. Everything was proceeding smoothly. Sister Naismith was on rest leave at present. iSomo very acceptable gifts had been received on behalf of the soldier patients. In answer to an inquiry regarding the wireless equipment, the Chairman stated that any hitch in receiving had been the result of altering the wave length, but the matter had been adjusted. The question of a garden party to be held in the homo grounds was discussed. It was finally resolved, on the motion of Mr Rosevear, to leave the matter in the hands of the Montecillo Committee.
