HYDRAULIC FILLING.

TAUPIIU COAL MINES, Hydraulic tilling in coal mines has been under consideration for some time by the directors of the Taupiri Coal Company (Ltd.). This system has been successfully carried out to a considerable extent in Pennsylvania and other parts of the United States of America, and also in some countries in Europe. With the object of ascertaining the working of the system Mr \V. I). Holgato, n director, was appointed seme months ago to visit the United .States to investigate the flushing system adopted there. Tho company lias been informed (hat. Mr Hnlgate. who will shortly return to Auckland, lias completed his investigations and is most sanguine that the system could bo successfully adopted in the company’s Extended mine at Huntly. As the company has an enormous quantity of coal in pillars in this mine the successful introduction of the system would bo of great value to it.
