The Tinies’s Peking correspondent states that Marshal Tsao-kun has been President of the Chinese Republic for three weeks, but has not yet formed a Cabinet. Meanwhile civil war continues briskly in. several provinces. Dr Sun-Yat-sen is again reported to b© in extremis. Kwang Tung may have to give way to General Chong-Hiung-Minn, who supports the Chihli party. General Wi-Pei-fu’s forces have been driven from Szechuan, and are retiring down the Yang-tsze, on which steamship traffic is practically impossible owing to the systematic firing upon all foreign vessels. Wu-Pei-fu’s representative is sorely beset. Chang-sha is the centre of a perpetual battle in which foreigners run considerable risks.
