ATTEMPTED FORGERY
A PERSISTENT SCHEMER. Bwim AMooiation—By Telegraph—Cepyrbrlit LONDON, November 2. Cuthbert Rico, the son of a Cornwall clergyman, was charged at Bow btreot with attempting to forgo a copy of the London Gazette. Prosecuting counsel said that accused was convicted of stealing in 1922 and was desirous of whitewashing himself. for tin’s purpose he asked the Government printer to print a facsimile page of the London Gazette stating in correct phraseology that the prosecution of the accused had been annulled owing to it being erroneous and based on false information, i he printer refused to print without Government authority. The accused thereupon wrote to the Controller of Stationery under a false name and applied for permission to reprint pages of the Gazette on the ground that he was compiling war records. Permission was granted, and the accused then returned to the Government printer. ■J.ne fatter, however, was not satisfied, and communicated with the Stationery Office, xhe rpso was then revealed. —A. and N.Z.
