UNITED STATES SHIPPING BOARD. A shipping correspondent of the London Daily Telegraph wrote as follows recently; A message from Washington stating that British shippers have declared a boycott of steamers belonging to the United States Shipping Board has been received in London shipping circles with marked incredulity. Although from time to time a few of the more hot-headed among shippers may have motted the desirability or advisability of adopting such a course as that suggested, one can gather no impression from more responsible quarters that a boycott of American Shipping Board boats is even a possibility. While shipping people on this side of the Atlantic appreciate that America is now a formidable competitor so far as merchant shipping is concerned, they have in the past treated, and, there is every reason to believe, will in the future, treat American shipping interests, whether Shipping Board or otherwise, with the same business - respect and intelligence as is accorded to British shipping and commercial circles at the hands of Americans, The United States Shipping Board ie now a recognised working competitor of British shipping lines, who would be the first to resent unfair action on the part of shippers, so that it would seem, therefore, that there is little, if any, basis for the reported action of the British shippers.
