THE WEATHER.
There has been little to complain of in the weather during the past few days, and yesterday —the first clay of summer —was ushered in with perfectly appropriate weather, which proved a decided encouragement for the donning of seasonable clothing. Towards the evening, however, conditions began to change, and the sky assumed a gloomy appearance, with a promise of something to follow. The promise was fulfilled, for about 7 o’clock rain began to fall, and continued with steady persistence throughout the night. There was little or no wind. (From Our Own Correspondents.} CROMWELL. November 1. For some days the weather has been unsettled, and rain has fallen at times, but a steady fall is badly needed. The prospects for tiie grain and fruit crons are good. HILLGROVE' November 1. Tile rainfall registered at Trotter’s Creek, Ilillgrove, for the month ended October 31 was 1.77 m. The total for the year to late is 23.19 in. There is a remarkable growth of grass in this district at th G present, time.
