GENERAL NEWS.

The quarterly meeting of th© Dunedin Council of the League of Nations Union was field on Tuesday evening, the Lev. 11. B. Bellhouse presiding. Correspondence was received from Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, and Kelson. The League of Nations Union, London, cabled to the Dominion Council asking the New Zealand branches to pass a resolution urging that the questions of the occupancy of the Ruhr, the interallied debts and the dra-ffc for the disarmaments’ guarantees be submitted to the League of Nations Council. The Dunedin union had passed a. similar resolution last July, and forwarded it to the proper quarter. Th© secretary reported that the appeal for financial help addressed to the Employers' and Masters’ Associations had met with no success. In connection with the foithcoming exhibition in the Brydonc Hall, space has been secured, and it is hoped to have a very attractive exhibit, where full information can be obtained concerning the League of Nations and the League of Nations’ Union. There will bo literature on sale, and short addresses will bo given to children. Since the last meeting of the council gatherings have taken place at Port Chalmers, St. Clair, and St. lulda, all resulting in a good accession of new members. One gentleman of th© council handed in names of 12 new members that ho had cniisted by personal canvass. S 9 individuals and four corporate bodies have joined since September 1. The treasurer submitted the annual balance sheet and o statement of donations. Despite the inclement weather conditions and an early opening, there was a good attendance of members at the meeting of Court Prido of the Leith, No. 3992, A.0.F., on Wednesday evening. The C.R. Bro. H. C. Williamson presided. All arrangements were completed for the forthcoming visit to Court Bruce, at Milton. The toast of th© ’•Visitors” was responded to by Bro. G. Clark, on behalf of Court Woodford, KaiayoL During the meeting four now members were admitted, and one was accepted by transfer. Following the close of the meeting, tho members of the juvenile courts connected witli the parent court were admitted. Competitions, which were held for tho youthful members, were won by Bros. I), W. Smith, E. Holmes, A. E. Davis, and Bros. A. G. Thompson, F. T. Holmes, and N. G. Tyler. After being entertained by th© adults, supper was served, and a pleasant .meeting concluded with the National Anthem. The monthly meeting of the North-East Valley United Band of Hope was held in the Institute, and was attended by a large gathering of children and adults. A good programme of music and recitations was submitted, to which the following contributed; Solos, Miss Benjamin and Dorothy Hancock; a Gipsy song in character was given by a number of girls from tho Presbyterian Church, recitations, Miss Eenfell and Raymond Anderson. Mr Waterhouse gave an instructive temperance address, and at the conclusion lie was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Fiv© new members were enrolled. The meeting was closed with praise and tho benediction. A successful conoe-rt was held in the Tomahawk School Hall on Tuesday night., The hall was filled with an appreciative audience. The concert was in tho hands of Mr T. Irvino, who submitted to the audience a varied programme of songs, dances, and a comedy cnfitled ‘‘Sherlock Bones.” The characters were taken by Messrs T. Irvine, G. Loffler, a. Wright, M. Clarkson, and J. Brunton. The other items were; Song, Miss Stewart; song. Master J. Mack. Messrs J. Falkner, K. Brunton, D. Robertson, a.nd Hutton also contributed songs. Misses Wright and Brunton played a duet, and the Smaill orchestra rendered a number of selections. Tho accompaniments were played by Mrs Brunton. The dedication and opening of the now Presbyterian Church at Son el iff took place on Sunday last. The Rev. Professor Davies conducted tho morning service, at which he was assisted by the Rev. Professor Gumming, Moderator of the Presbytery of Dunedin. The Rev. J. C. Jamieson conducted a service for children and young people in th© afternoon; and the Rev. W. Scorgie, Moderator of the charge, assisted by Mr F. G. Gumming, conducted the evening service. AH the cervices were largely attended, the buildin" at the evening service being filled to its° utmost capacity. Miss Fraser presided at the organ, and fiolos were contributed by Miss Monk and Messrs’ MTvor and Borley. Tho new church is a very handsome brick structure, Th© exterior is finished in clinker brick and roughcast plaster, and the interior is also beautifully finished. The whole work reflects much credit on the architects, Messrs Salmond and Vanes, and the builder, Mr C. W. Wilkinson. On Thursday evening a radio concert was held in the Ravcnsbourne Town Hall under the auspices of the Ravensbourne Amonitiro Society. Mr F. J. O’Neili, of the British Electrical Co., transmitted tho concert from 4YA station, Dunedin, and Messrs C. W. Campbell and A. Scott acted as operators with their own plant at Ravensbourne. The entertainment proved to be quite a novelty, and was listened to by a full house. The concert came through very distinctly after tho first two or three items. Mr A. Williamson, chairman of tho Ravensbourne Amenities Society, presided at the entertainment.
