OTAGO A. AND P. SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting' of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was hold in the society's board room yesterday, and attended by Messrs D. Andrew (president, in the chair), A. Johnson, James Macandiew, A. M'Kay, James Gow, 1. bcott, J. Nitnmo, R. A. S. Cantrell, T. J. Gawn, 1). Murray, W. Turnbull, H. 0. Campbell, H. Turner, R. A. Ewing. Apologies were received from Messrs Edgar C. Hazlelt, James Begg, H. M. Driver, and G. R. Ritchie.

The executive submitted the following icport ; The executive begs to advise that an estimate has been received from the Dunedin City Council in regard to the cost of the proposed deviation of the railway lino into the park. The executive recommends that before proceeding with any arrangements for a conference with the Dunedin City Council Tramway Committee in connection with the proposal submitted, the Ocean Beach Domain Board bo asked to receive a deputation from the society to discuss what arrangements could bo made with that board in connection with providing sufficient accommodation to erect loading banks, ajid also to construct the necessary railway for shunting, and making provision for the accommodation of empty trucks. The Ocean Beach Domain Board has already been written to, and if a favourable reply is received, representatives will be appointed to meet the members of the board. All those particulars are necessary before the society could commit itself to any expense on the lino, and before any definite instructions can bo given to move in the direction of applying for a portion of Culling Park under the Public Works Act as has been recommended. The President, in moving the adoption of the report, stated that the executive was not in a position to make any definite .statements as to the result of the negotiations that have taken place in connection with connecting the show grounds by rail beyond stating that matters were Pf°\ grossing favourably. The Dunedin City Tramway Committee was prepared to make recommendations to (he General Committee which would be a direct, advantage to the society. The executive did not expect any difficulty in .arriving at a satisfactory arrangement with the Ocean Beach Domain Board, members of which wore entirely in sympathy with the society’s operations. The motion was seconded by Mr James Gow, and carried.

On the motion of Mr Tumor, seconded by Mr R. A. Ewing, the Finance Committee recommended that accounts totalling £721 6s 9d be passed for payment, ami that debentures Nos. 1 and 2, each for £IOO, be cancelled, the holder of same having agreed to accept payment. Mr T. T. Ritchie moved that, authority he given to have the necessary repairs executed to the loose boxes and stalls at the park, and also to erect 12 sheep yards for the convenience of exhibitors. The estimated, cost of these repairs would amount to about £65. The motion was seconded by Mr Turner, and carried. Mr R. A. S. Cantrell submitted the following report from the Cattle Committee ; (1) That in revising the schedule it was decided that only registered stock would be eligible to compete in the purebred sections./and the committee desires that this should be clearly defined and intending exhibitors advised accordingly. (2) 'that the rules of the society could not be amended in regard to the ago of cattle to allow an imported animal to bo shown in the yearling class, and that the breeder be advised that his animal must be exhibited as a two-year-old. (3) That the question of having a class for calves at the show to bo exhibited by girls and boys bo held over in the meantime.

Air Cantrell staled that the committee realised that the competition was admirably suited for country shows, but whore exhibitors and stock had to bo conveyed some distance by rail it was not altogether suitable.

The Cattle Committee’s report was seconded by Mr James Macandrew, and carried. It was decided that the society call for tenders for the privilege of catering at the Summer Show. Terms and conditions of tenders left in the hands of the Catering Committee.

The secretary was instructed to write the railway traffic manager in regard to excursion fares for the show, and also to request that a special show stock train from Oamam lx? run on a similar timetable to last year.

The Canterbury A. and P. Association wrote that the committee had decided to abandon holding a conference during Show Week, and that, in the meantime they had recommended that (his conference be held in March, 1824.-—Noted. Air K. S. Charters (AVaikain) wrote advising that he had accepted the position of judge of Corriedale sheep at Christchurch. and did not consider it advisable in the interests of the society that he should accept a similar position in Dunedin.—lt was "decided to thank Air Charters for his letter and another judge was nominated for (his section. The Dunedin City Council wrote giving an approximate cost of the proposed deviation of the railway line into the park as per plans submitted by the society.—-It was decided to refer this letter to the executive.

Authority was granted to arrange with the Dunedin City Council for the conveyance) of stock to the show grounds, and also for the necessary repairs required by tho department in connection with the line. Correspondence was read between (lie Clvdesdalo Horse Society, the Palmerston i\orlh A. and P. Association, and the society, which was noted. Invitations have boon sent to tho Hon. W. Nosworthy, the Hon. W. Dowme Stewart, and the Hon, G. J. Anderson to attend the show. Tho Council of Agriculture forwarded copies of revised list of judges who have been recommended by the various A. and P. Associations and different breeders.

Tho committee lias arranged with the New Zealand Friesian Breeders’ Association to have a demonstration on the points of a Frit sian animal, and a judging competition at 2 p.m. on tho first day of the show. Tho Friesian Association has offered a gold modal as first prize, and Ihe society a silver medal as second prize for this competition. The following are the name? of the judges who so far have accepted for the different, sections:—
