TORTURES IN THE ARCTIC.
It is reported that (he Danish explorer, hi. Peter I'rcuchen, second in command of Rasmussen’s expedition among the Eskimos and the Arctic and North America, has been attacked with gangrene in the heel and too due to the excessive cold. The snow being frozen to a powder, it was impossible to build snowhouses tor night protection, and he had to burrow underneath. In one night M. Freuchen’s beard was frozen into a block of ice, and he was compelled to tear it off.
