WAS IT A PLOT? Miss Mary Miles Minter, the little kinema star whose love notes to William Desmond Taylor were revealed at the time of the mysterious murder of the Bnglish film director in his Los Angeles villa in February, 1022, has appealed for protection to the police of Pasadena, where she is now staying. Mlißtf Sigfrid Holmquist, tho “Swedish Mary Pickford,” who occupied as a tenant Miss Minter’s sumptuous residence in Los Angeles, has also appealed to the police to guard her from molestation as the result of strange happenings in the house. Soon after she took possession of the place Miss Holmquist complains, two strange men entered the. house. Asked what they wanted as they glanced about the room and then at her - , they said they were detectives, but took their departure without further explanation. Two weeks ago, while Miss Holmquist was entertaining friends, a shot was fired at her from bushes on the lawn as she appeared on the verandah. Some of the men hunted for her assailant, but found no trace of him. A few nights later Miss Holmquist was awakened by tho glare of a flashlight in her b’edroom, but the light was shut off when she screamed, and the intruder got away without being seen. In Pasadena, where she is recuperating from nervous troubles, following the -unsolved killing of Taylor, Miss Minter complains that she is being watched. She is so frightened that sho sleeps with a pistol under her pillow.
