THE YALE TELESCOPE. TO TBS SDITOK. Sir, —Would it not bo interesting to hear the explanation from Auckland to the American people as to why, when there is a question of an international telescope, Auckland works a point on the rest of New Zealand to get it, but when it is a question of an international exhibition in another part of Yew Zealand, Auckland—or a section of it? If Auckland wants an Imperial Exhibition, why not also an Imperial telescope? Why accept one from America ? What Auckland in effect says to America is, “W e will take your telescope, but if we have our way we will see that you are not allowed to show any goods in a New Zealand exhibition.” Hather a lop-sided arrangement do you not think, sir. from America's point ol view? And the strange thing about it is that the place.'where the Exhibition is to be held is the place that makes no objection to American exhibits, and is precisely the locality in which everyone thought up to the last moment that the telescope would be
