BOWLING.

ANDERSON’S BAY. The formal opening of the bowling season by the Anderson’s Bay Club took place on Saturday afternoon. The pavilion presented a perfect blaze of colour, being gaily decorated with flags. Music was supplied during the afternoon, and the ladies connected with the club supplied refreshments on very liberal lines, under the direction of Mrs Tonkinson, wife of the president of the club. Mr A. H. Tonkinson, in briefly addressing those present, extended a hearty welcome to all, and hoped they would have a pleasant day. He said that, one thing he would like to impress upon the residents of Anderson’s Bay was that they had a splendid green, but they wanted more members, who would derive much pleasure and benefit by becoming subscribers. That was their sixth anniversary, and an infant club required a lot of attention. They wer# fortunate in having a lot of good active officials, and a good greenkeeper.—Mr F. H. Campbell, on behalf of the centre, expressed his best wishes for » successful season. —Mrs Tonkinson then rolled up the first bowl of the season, and players were selected • to play the time-honoured match, President v. Vicepresident. The game proved perfectly enjoyable, the green playing well. ST. KILDA. Very fine weather favoured the opening ot the St. Kilda Bowling Club on Saturday afternoon, when there was a large attendance of members and visitors from sister clubs. Mr H. Smeaton (president) extended a cordial welcome to the visitors, and declared the club officially open, after which his daughter sent down the first bowl. The proceedings were enlivened by a local orwhich contributed a bright selection of musical items. The pavilion has recently been renovated by certain members of the club, who had formed themselves into a working bee, and the accomplishment of tliis work was recognised by a presentation of a fountain pen to each member who had given his services. Mr Marlow', who represented the club on the centre, made the.presentation. Mr Charles Todd (Mayor of St. Kilda) also briefly addressed the gathering. KAITUNA. The Kaituna Bowling Club also opened its season on Saturday. Colonel Moir (president) welcomed the members and visitors, the latter including some from the North Island. In the course 01 his remarks, reference was made to the death of Mr D. G. MTherson and Mr Robt. Johnson. He also mentioned that the membership began with practically the same, number as that of last year. Mr A. J. Sullivan, on behalf cf the centre and of the Dunedin Club, conveyed the hearty greetings and good wishes for the coming season. Mrs Moir rolled the first bowl and the president declared the green open, after which a game was played between rinks representing the President and the vicepresident. One of the opposing rink® was made up of the executive of the centre. A pleasant musical programme was rendered by the Sunshine Band.
