ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
WATERSIDE WORKER’S DEATH. An inquest was held at the Morgue at 6 p.m. on Saturday before Mr J. R.. Bartholomew, S.M., acting as coroner, concerning the death of Augustus George Dalton, a waterside worker, who resided at 714 King street. Deceased had been in indifferent health for about three months, and had become despondent over the sudden death of his son. He recently consulted Dr Fitzgerald, ", who had ' previously prescribed for him, but lin’d not made a minute examination. At about 6.30 p.m. on Friday, Dalton complained to his wife of severe pains in the head and general indisposition and he became unconscious and expired shortly afterwards. Dr Fitzgerald was summoned and pronounced life extinct. Dr Drennan stated that he had made a post mortem examination, and that death was due, in his opinion, to heart failure supervening upon an old disease of the heart valves and muscles. John Steven Donaldson, 26 Bay View road, identified the body and gave evidence regarding the health of deceased, who was 46 years of age. A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned. Deceased leaves a widow and three chilren.
A FARMER’S DEATH. (Per United Press Association.) WAIHI, October 22. G. Jackson, a middle-aged unmarried dealer and farmer, was found dead in his bed at his residence, Bowentown, Katikati district, this morning. The circumstances point to suicide. It is alleged that deceased had been worrying over a grave charge which was to have been preferred against him at the Waihi Police Court this week.
