The following are the principal clauses from the committee reports to be presented to a meeting of the Dunedin City Council on Wednesday evening: The Works Committee reports that the City Enginer has been instructed to record - WORKS COMMITTEE, tor consideration with next year's allocations a request from Mrs E. M. Dallas for the renewal of steps in Elm row and permanent improvements to the channelling. A renewed application from Mr F. E. Cration for permission to make alterations and additions to wooden building in King -street has been declined after inspection of the premises by (he committee. The proposed work would be a distinct breach of tlie building by-law. An application from Mi' J. Hague for permission to remove a fmir-roomcd cottage Torn No. 39 Park street and re-crect it on a section in Cargill road has been granted. GENERAL COMMITTEE.

the General Committee has further considered the application from the Caversham Lawn Tennis Club for an additional playing area on the area known as the Children’s Playground, Caversham, and now recommends that the applicants be granted a ihird court alongside of the two already lgranted. As the club be put to very considerable expenditure,; in constructing the courts, filling hollows, and piping-the creek, it is therforc recommended that it be granted the use of the sites for the throe courts free of rent, for the first three years. J lie question of piping the creek will, of course, have to be dealt with by the Drainage Board, arid lias therefore been referred to that body for its consideration.

The under-mentioned applications for cricket playing areas have been granted;— (a) The Otago Cricket League, four wickets on the Oval next Park street, with the use of the tub' side roo ms in the pavilion, (h) 'J he Otago Cricket Association, throe wickets in the centre of the Oval, with the use of the Centre room in the pavilion. •If possible, another wicket to be prepared for the association 'on the hoys’ portion, provided such wicket be used on Saturday afternoons only. This machine ’is required to cut the Octagon, Cueen s Gardens, Market Reserve, and the reserves at the Early Settlers’ Hall and Art Gallery The cost will be saved out of the current year’s allocations. Tiro committee reports having dealt with applications for licenses and permits as follows :

(a) Milk Incenses: Forty licenses have been granted, and consideration of 70 has been deferred to give the applicants an opportunity of complying with the requirements of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act. (b) One applicant for a permit to deliver public addresses from Cargill’s Monument on Sundav evenings has fcecn declined. (c) An application that the present stand in Dowling street, and, in addition. the Queen’s Monument and the footway and roadway adjacent thereto, should be constituted permanent stands for public sneaking, has been declined meantime. Public attention is being drawn to the provision?, of tho by-law which prohibits too clrv sweeping of refuse on to footways or into channels. Steps are being taken to ensure a more general observance of this bv-law and also tV' by-law making it an offence to expectorate on footways. TRADING COMMITTEE. Tim Trading Committee submits the following recommendations : —*ihat the tender of Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company (I /A.) for the supply and delivery, c.i.f. aTt '' e Dunedin, for the sum of approximately’ £1525 for ; small size distribution transformers, be accepted. This tender is the lowest of five received. That the tender of the Bruce Railway and Coal Company for the snpplv and delivery, all charges- paid,, of 6000 super feet of lirSt-class sawn tallow wood, at the price of 49s 6d per 100 super feet, be accepted.
