AN ANGLER DROWNED.

FALLS FROM RAILWAY BRIDGE. SEARCH FOR BODY UNSUCCESSFUL. (Pee United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 16. Hugh Alexander Perkins, a single man, aged 34, who was formerly a captain in the Expeditionary Force, was drowned in the Waimakariri River, near Stewart’s Gully, Kaiapoi. Perkins, who belongs to Christchurch, was spending the fishing season at Stewart’s Gully. While he and two companions were walking in single file across the railway bridge he evidently slipped on the wet planking and disappeared. The night was wet and boisterous, and no success attended the rescuogs. The body has not been recovered.
