THE COAL DEADLOCK.
POSITION' AT PALMERSTON NORTH. ! NO UNEASINESS AT PRESENT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON NORTH, October 16. So far there is no uneasiness in regard to the coal situation on the West Coast, , which is not- 1 affecting the position locally, as the bulk of the coal for industrial purpoifcs comes from Newcastle. At the gasworks. however, supplies are beginning to diminish rapidly, but relief has been temporarily provided by a shipment of 500 tons which arrived at Wanganui to-day. Two further consignments of 250 tons each are' expected early next week, and with 400 tons of New Zealand State coal which has been delayed in Greymouth, the supplies should ba sufficient for some time. “'
