A METEORIC CAREER
YOUNG MAN’S HEARTLESSNESS. LONDON, October o. The meteoric career of a youth, Harold Ray Milner, has left the residents of Holbeck (Leeds) thunderstruck at tK?ir own amazing credulity. Arriving “from nowhere” six weeks ago, Milner formed a partnership with a local business man, and bought a theatre, a mansion, furniture, costly plate, and .a motor car. He wooed the local beauty, Kathleen Jarvis, married her in the parish church, and then deserted her during the honeymoon in London, leaving her penniless. Milner’s final exploit, and his greatest, was to obtain an advance from a London money-lender on the strength of a mythical inheritance. A London Daily Mail investigator found the bride and Milner's partner commiserating with each other before a pile of hills amounting to thousands of pounds.
