WEST WALLSEND STRIKE. DISASTROUS TO FEDERATION. Presa Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, October 16. Mr Rees, president of the Miners’ Federation, informed the West Wallsend miners that the recent stoppage as a protest against the local magistrate was one of the most disastrous in the history of the federation, which had lost £165,000 in expenditure for' relief and in other directions.
A FORTUNATE ESCAPE. - SYDNEY, October 16. The" Aberniain Colliery was idle yesterday. To-day 600 tons of earth and coal collapsed in the travelling tunnel a quarter of an hour prior to the miners entering for the day’s duties. Three hundred miners were gathered round the tunnel mouth at the time preparing to enter the mine. BUSH FIRES AT RICHMOND. SYDNEY", October 16. (received Oct. 16, at 10.15 p.m.) As a result of the drought serious bush fires are raging in the Upper Richmond district. They are menacing large areas of timber and grass. COOGEE CHARGES WITHDRAWN. SYDNEY, October 16. (Received Oct. 16, at 10.15 p.m.) Taylor, Riley, and Ellen Kreagher, who were charged in connection with the Coogee mystery, have been discharged, the police offering no evidence.
