The cows owned by a lady settler in the Kairanga must be models of deportment and caution if the owner’s estimate of their virtues is correct (remarks the Manawatu Daily Times). A letter to the Kairanga County Council, received at a recent meeting, read as follows:—“In answer to your note dated 12 re My 4 Cows being on the road and thank the Council for me for letting me have them so long tell them I will fence and try My Best to keep them in if I cannot I will have to sell. 1 was told the neighbours were going to Complain to the Council just to be nasty and force me to sell them dont think of their own My Cows and Horse are only out sometimes there’s Are out all day and My Cows never get in the way of Traffic or do any harm if one could prove my Cows damaged Anything 1 would pay for it they know that And I am always read to Pay the ranger’s fee and would pay Summonses too but would not like to go Court being deaf."—Tire letter was received.
