TELEGRAMS.

(Pee United Press Association.) HAMILTON, October 6. The lion. R. F. Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs, was welcomed at a social at Taupiri on his first visit to the district since his elevation to Cabinet rank. Much enthusiasm was displayed, and Mr Bollard was cordially congratulated. Considerable interest was displayed in the election of the first permanent board for the Waikato-West Const Railway District. Nineteen candidates were nominated for nine seats. There were two factions, one known as “progressive,” who favoured investigation into the project with the object of constructing a railway, and the opponents, who were against proceeding with the work. The election resulted in a defeat of all the progressives and the return of their opponents.
