PRISON DESPERADOES

QUESTION OF DfSLODGMENT. AUTHORITIES FAVOUR DYNAMITE. Pr«a» Association —By Telegraph—Oopyrlgtff NEW YORK, October 6. (Received - Oct. 7, at 5.5 p.m.) The Eddyville (Kentucky) prison authorities conferred with the leaders of the militia in endeavouring to formulate a plan by means of which the three convict murderers might be dislodged from the bullet-scarred mess hall in which they are successfully entrenched for the third successive day. The authorities are inclined to use dynamite against the barricaded desperadoes. Meanwhile the belief is spreading that the mutineers have escaped by way of an elevator or have sought safety by hiding in the kitchen boilers or bread ovens. A censorship meanwhile has been established until tomorrow, when the prison authorities will meet the press representatives.—A. and N.Z. Cable. A previous message said an attempt by three convict desperadoes to escape from the State penitentiary caused the death of one guard arid serious injury to three others. The mutineers, using smuggled automatic pistols, conceitedly fired at their keepers, while 6000 prisoners wore at breakfast. The latter, however, refused to join the - outbreak. Tho mutineers rushed the main entrance to the prison, but the presence of reserves caused them to change their course, and they dashed into an empty dining hall, whero they barricaded themselves successsfully against rifle fire, which 'was continued all day.
