VESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS CLOSE OF SESSION. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL (Per Unitej Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 29.The Legislative Council met at 10 a.m., and passed the Appropriation Bill. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 11.30. The business for the most part consisted of laying on the table departmental and other reports. The MINISTER presented a report on the Haurnki Plains drainage scheme. Mr RHODES asked when the 3600 acres would be ready for occupation. The Hon. W. NOS WORTHY replied that 2000 acres would bo ready shortly, when they would be thrown open for selection. The total expenditure to date was £485,000. The area drained had cost £90,000.

At noon, the Speaker left the Chair to proceed to Government House for the purpose of obtaining the Governor-General’s signature to the Appropriation Bill. When the Speaker resumed the Chair at 12.40 he announced that the GovernorGeneral had in the name of His Majesty given his assent to the Appropriation Act. In the-absence of the Prime Minister, the Hon. W. NOS WORTHY, in a few felicitous remarks, congratulated the Speaker, Chairman of Committees, and the officers of Parliament on the efficient manner in which they had discharged the duties of thoir respective offices. He also thanked the press for its faithful reports, and to the Leader of the Opposition and Mrs Wilford he extended the good wishes of the House on their proposed trip to the East. To the Loader of the Labour Party he wished a pleasant recess, and to the members a joyful rest after such a strenuous session. Mr WILFORD, Mr HOLLAND, the SPEAKER, and Mr YOUNG suitably re-' plied, whereupon the House adjourned, and the second session of the twenty-first Parliament came to an end at 1.10 p.m. with the singing qf the Nationa. Anthem.
