WELLINGTON COMPETITIONS.
(Peb United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 29. The following are the results of the fourth day of the Wellington Competitions; Girls’ Song (aged 16 to 18), “Summer Days_ and Nights.”—Miss Ina Thompson (Napier), 81 points, 1; Miss L. Hutchings (Wellington), 79 points, 2; Miss Ailsa Nichoi (Lower Hutt), 77 points, 3. The Judge (Mr Roland Foster) said that Miss Thompson possessed a full, rich voice, which should develop into a good contralto according to present indications. Operatic Tenor Solo, “Long Ago in Egypt,”—Alfred Thompson (Christchurch), James Taylor, and Leonard IJaniell (Wellington), 85 points each. The Judge said that the competitors, on the whole, were so equal that it was impossible to separate them. Although missing effective points, all showed artistic judgment and control of vocal powers.
