SHALE WORKS.
THE OREPUKI COMPANY. (From Otm Own Cor.KESPONtmNT.) WELLINGTON, August 28. In the House of Representatives to-day Mr J. C. Thomson ashed a question in regard to the Orenuki Shale Works. Mr Thomson’s question could not be clearly heard, but ho was understood to say that f 1.000.000 had boon invested bv the Shaje Company. The Hon. G. J. Anderson said he would visit the works if the hon. member desired that he should do so. Ho thought the company should carry on the work. It had a (rood property (here, but he understood it had been turned down many years ago for other reasons than business reasons. The Government was interested in so far as the extension of the loasi was concerned. He questioned very much whether the company could make use of its extension. Mr Thomson: That’s just t< e point. Mr Anderson said he (bought in such cases a company should have on extension. but if so it must go on with the work or the matter must come to an end. If such licenses were taken up and nothing done they must come to > an end, and the State would have to step in.
