U.S. NAVAL PROGRAMME.

£31,600,000 IN 20 YEARS. AIR STATIONS PLANNED. WASHINGTON, August 12. Mr Theodore Roosevelt, Acting-Secretary for the Navy has approved the Naval Board’s recommendations for huge expenditure on naval shore work. The plan, which will be submitted to Congress, provides for an immediate outlay of 7,000,000 dollars (£1,400,000), and expenditure of 168,000,000 dollars (£31,600,000) within 20 years. The programme includes 776,000 dollars (£155,200) for repair work in the Philippines, at Guam, and in the Samoan Islands. A supplementary report contemplates the expenditure, of 16,000,000 dollars (£3,200,000) on naval air stations in the next 20 years.
