In delivering judgment on a motor collision case at the Masterton Magistrate’s Court recently, Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., said he always .attached more importance to the evidence of an artisan than that of a labourer, the former being usually more observant. An example of the lack of knowledge of New Zealand displayed by many people in the 'United States is afforded by the receipt by an Auckland business man of a letter from a firm of publishers in New York, addressed Auckland, New Zealand, .England (states an exchange). Commenting on this, the recipient said it was rather surprising that American business men, who were usually considered to be so up to date, should bo so ignorant of the position of New Zealand, and it showed that this country had received insufficient publicity in the United States. Some months ago a New Zealander, on returning from a visit to the United States, ■ had informed him that several Americans had asked whether New Zealand was close to England. The gamble which exists in the present method of consigning produce to the English market (says the Taranaki Herald) was strikingly illustrated at the annual meeting of shareholders of th e Tikorongi Dairy Company recently. In quoting the prices secured for the various shipments or produce, the secretary stated that one vessel which was loaded for West Coast of England porta arrived Home whilst good prices were prevailing. Delay took place in the vessel's discharge, and it was three weeks before her produce was landed. In the meantime the bottom had fallen out of the market, only a shilling being advanced on the shipment of butter. On the other hand, another vessel spent several weeks longer than she should have cruising around New Zealand, Her cargo which, according to schedule, would have arrived in the middle of the slump period, caught an improved market, and realised nearly top prices.
