A communique from Tifaranin states: The town having been relieved and restocked, our troops are returning to their bases, after establishing a strong defensive 7 'line for future operations. We have already recovered from the battle ground 300 dead The enemy have abandoned their trenches and retired some distance.—A. and N.Z. Cable. THE LOSSES SUFFERED. HEAVY RIFF CASUALTIES. LONDON, August 25. (Received Aug. 26, at 5.5 p.m.) The Madrid correspondent of the Daily Express states that the Spanish losses in the relief of Tifaranin totalled 1000. The Riff losses were 2000. The fighting is expected to be resumed in two days, when the Spaniards will endeavour to clear Alhucemas.—A. and N.Z. Cable. • AN UNPOPULAR WAR. SPANISH REGIMENT MUTINIES. MADRID, August 24. An official communique states that a section of a Garellano regiment mutinied at Malaga., the men objecting to orders to embark for Melilla. The ringleaders fired at the officers, one of whom was killed. The troops eventually persuaded them to embark. The ringleaders will be courtmartialled.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
