ADRIATIC PROBLEMS
ITALY’S PATIENCE EXHAUSTED. VIRTUAL ULTIMATUM TO JUGOSLAVIA. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright ROME, August 24. The newspaper Messagero states that Signor Mussolini on August 8 sent to Senator Cuartieri, the leader of the Italian delegation which is negotiating the execution of the Treaty of Rapallo, a letter to be communicated to the Jugo-Slav delegation stating that the Italian Government was unable longer to tolerate Jugo-Slav opposition to the solution of Adriatic problems. The letter added that Italy had abundantly proved the loyalty of her intentions and the frankness of her attitude in evacuating the third Dalmatian zone and executing other clauses of the treaty, and it concludes by stating that unless a solution is reached by August 31 Italy will reserve full liberty of action. The Messagero points out that as a result of Signor Mussolini’s virtual ultimatum the Jugo-Slav delegates are show ing more activity and are apparently resolved to arrive at a conclusion. An answer from Belgrade has not yet arrived. A. and N.Z. Cable.
