SOCIETY OF MUSICIANS.

A very interesting time was spent on Saturday evening, when in place 'of the usual quarterly meeting of members the Society of Musicians of Otago held a musical evening. The seating accommodation of the Bristol concert chamber was fully occupied by members and students. Mr G. W. Johnstone (president) expressed pleasure at seeing so many present and wished those members present who did not perhaps always attend the ordinary meetings to understand that these meetings were not confined to business only, but highly qualified teachers came forward and gave valuable information ori different branches of the art. Papers had been given on vocalisation, piano technique, etc., which had been immensely interesting and instructive. An excellent programme was rendered by the following Piano solos—Misses Mary G Fraser. Maisie M’Donald, and Mr Leslie Tyrie; songs. Misses Lforniblow and Dorothy Allan - violin duo, Messrs J. Green and E. Ruffcll'; recitation. Miss Jefferson; piano duo, Misses B. and I. Barth. A paper on “Conerpoint and Fugue” was given by Mr C A. Martin, L.A.8., who played a Bach Fugue in illustration. Before closing with the National Anthem, Mr Johnstone expressed thanks to those ladies and gentlemen who had given so much pleasure by the iteml they had given during the evenin" The audience showed their concurrence bv° hearty applause. The accompaniments were ably played by Misses I. Barth and M. Gawn and Mr C. A. Martin.
