CITY POLICE COURT.
Saturday,' August 25. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) A Series of Charges.—Alexander Wilson Hogg (Mr Irwin) pleaded guilty to being drunk and committing mischief, and not guilty to assaulting William James Bell.— The complainant said that Hogg entered his (complainont’s) hairdresser’s shop in a drunken condition. He tried to enter the saloon, and complainant attempted to eject him, with the result that a glass door was broken and complainant’s hand was badly out, requiring medical attention. As a consequence ho was unable to work.—Other evidence was given to show that the accused was 21 years of age and that he uad just begun to take liquor, which he usually drank “neat.”—The accused was convicted and discharged on the charge of drunkenness, fined £5, in default seven days’ imprisonment, on the charge of assault, and 20s on the charge of mischief, in default seven days’ imprisonment. In addition he was ordered to pay £2 damages and witness’s expenses (10s). Alleged Theft of Boots.—William Wright (Mr Irwin), who was charged with the theft of boots valued at £l2 Os 6d, the property of the Gibson Boot Factory, was remanded till Friday. Bail was allowed in £SO, with two sureties of £25. or one of £SO. Drunkenness.—Arthur Henry Taylor was fined 20.5. in default 48 hours’ imprisonment, for drunkenoss.
