Tho New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Ltd.) have received the following cablegram from their London house under date August 17: Now Zealand frozen meat; Lamb, lid per lb (average). Mutton: Wether and maiden ewe, light 83d per lb, heavy 7Jd per lb; ewe, light 5Jd per lb, heavy sid per lb. Beef; Quotations are unchanged. The market is dull. New Zealand dairy produce: Butter, 176 s to 180 s per owt. The market is firm. Cheese, 108 s to 114 a per cwt. Nominal quotations. CANTERBURY PRODUCE MARKET. (Pes United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 21. The potato market continues to show considerable activity, and a fairly largo volume of business is reported, chiefly on behalf of over-sellers in tho North Island. There has been a good inquiry from Auckland, and sales are reported to have been made on a basis of £9 10s, f.0.b., e.i., for whites for delivery this month. Fanners are being paid £8 for whites and £7 10s for Dakotas, but they aro reported to be not over-keen to sell. Whether this is duo to apathy or to the lack of potatoes to sell is not quite clear. Sales of fowl wheat at 4s lid to 5s f.0.b., sack Is Id extra, are reported. The market for oats continues to be quiet. There has been renewed inquiry from Auckland for all kinds of seeds, bnt prospective buyers are showing no inclination to do business at the prices quoted, and very few transactions are reported. Reports from Europe indicate that a harvest of red clover is expected, which should result in an exportable surplus. Some business has been done with London in partridge peas, at prices equal to those ruling locallly. SHEEPSKIN SALE. The Dunedin Wcolbrokera’ Association (the Otago Farmers’ Co-operative Association of New Zealand, Ltd., Todd Bros., Ltd,, Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Ltd., Stronach, Morris, and Co., Ltd., New Lealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Donald Itoid and Co., Ltd.) report as follows;—The usual fortnightly sale was held yesterday, when medium-sized catalogues were offered to a full attendance of buyers. Competition was keen and prices showed an increase ot about Id per lb on those ruling at last sale.
