CHANG-SHA ON SANDBANK NO LIVES ENDANGERED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, August 19. ' A wireless message was picked up by the Penant Hills station reporting that the steamer Chang-sha, en route from Sydney to Hongkong, is ashore at the Tigitipe Bank, north of Celebes Island. The steamer Victoria, which is also on the China run, is hastening to her assistance. The latest report is that the Chang-sha is resting on the sand, and that all on board are well. VESSEL FIRMLY AGROUND. RELIEF STEAMER DESPATCHED. SYDNEY, August 20. (Received Aug. 20, at 9.2 b p.m.) According to a wireless message received to-day, tne position of the Chang-sha is more serious than was at first anticipated. There are 'Bft of water in the lorepeajc and lift in No. 1 hold. The master reports that ho will be unable to reheat the ship without assistance. A relief steamer has been despatched from Sanaakan. All on board are well. The Chang-sha'is a steel vessel of 226 S tons gross register, was built by Messrs Scott and Co., at Greenock, in iaßb, aim is owned by the Australian-Oriental Bine, of Sydney. Her principal dimensions are: Length, 215 ft 2m; breadth, edit 2m; and depth, 23ft Sin. The Chang-sha is regularly employed in the passenger and cargo service between China and Australian ports. Her ports of call on the outward voyage are Brisbane, Cairns, Thursday Island, Sandakan, Manila, and Hongkong. The Victoria is a steel steamer of 2969 tons gross, and was engaged tor many years in the Sydney-Auckland-East Coast service under the Huddart-Parker flag. During this period she was a wellknown visitor to Dunedin. She was sold to a Chinese firm several years ago, and has been employed in the trade between Eastern ports and Sydney ever since.
