CULLING PARK.

TO TBI EDITOB. Sir, —Whether tho spoil from the drainage operations at' present being carried out ! in the borough should be utilised for the purpose of raising Culling Park is a question. that is agitating the minds of the St. Rilda councillors. The park is a very valuable asset, but the conditions under which it.-is held are somewhat irksome, and do not warrant any considerable amount of money being spent on it at the expense of tho ratepayers; Tho cost of carting the material to the park and the digging of it in would be a strain on the finances of the council during the present year, and would intensify very considerably the dissatisfaction in various parts of the borough through the deplorable condition of the streets. A person has... ip wallow through a sea of mud on Prinjqe, Albert road every time he goes to board, ,a> tramcar. The revenue derived from the parjc is very small indeed—some £3 or £i is ihfr average—and according to the conditions: iaid down all the revenue derived from the park' has to be spent on the park. The cricket club gets the use of the park free, and has no qualms about ringing up the town clerk and informing him that the grass requires cutting, etc. The "Soccer" people are not prepared to spend anything on it unless they have it practically exclusively for their own use, and unless tho school children are prohibited. ' It is about time earns definite policy was laid down as. to where the council stands with regard to the park or whether it is going to spend th» ratepayers'' money in improving the park at the expense of the low-lying streets and sections tho-taro still very conspicuous in the borough.—l am, etc., Ratepayer.- ■•;
