MOSGIEL SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

Mr A. J. Paterson (chairman) presided over th© monthly meeting of the Mosgiel School Committee. An apology for absence owing to illness was received from Mr Bremner. The Rector reported that the school had suffered very seriously from the prevailing epidemic. The school had been closed for a week, and on resuming there were 56 absentees. The dental nurse had entered upon her work among the children of the school. Sh© expected to treat th© children on Saturdays as well as on week days, and accordingly made application for the use of a key of th© gate and duplicate of the room keys. He mentioned a number of small matters that the Works Committee might attend to. He brought under the committee’s notice the fact that the flagpole had been interfered with, and until the rope was adjusted the school could not perform th© statutory duty of hoisting and saluting the flag. The damage was done when the cadets were in the school ground.—Received. Th© Education Board advised having permitted a tenant to occupy the vacant school residence. Instructions had been given to the architect to complete as scon as the weather was favourable tho work of draining th© storm water on tho school grounds to the side channel in Church street.—Received. The Director of the Division of Dental Hygiene, Department of Health, notified having forwarded th© dental equipment, and stated that the dental nurse (Miss Nicolson) would leave for Mosgiel in a week's time.— Received. Application was mod© for assistance towards defraying the cost of tram fares of school teams when playing matches away from Mosgiel.—Held over for one month. The Chairman detailed the preparations for the opening of the dental clinic and necessary furnishings. The accounts for same totalled £36 Is. —It was decided to write to Dr Hunter asking which schools on the Taieri were to receive treatment, and thus share the expenditure.
