REASON FOR ABANDONMENT.

LONDON, June 21. According to telegrams from Nome, Alaska, sa.ys the Christiania correspondent of the Times, Captain Amundsen abandoned his projected North Polar flight because of the, breakdown of his machine on its trial flight. Captain Amundsen is returning to the' United States in the schooner Holmes.
