The Opiki arrived here last night from Bluff, and is to sail to-day for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, New Plymouth, and Nelson. . The Opihi is due back hero this morning from Bluff, and is to sail to-day for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, New Plymouth, and Nelson. The Kamo sailed last night fpr Oamaru, Timaru, and Greyraouth. She will load at the Coast for Lyttelton and Dunedin. The Tekoa is to sail at a.rn, to-day for Bluff, where she will complete unloading her Liverpool cargo, and will then go to Australian ports to load for Great Britain. On completing cleaning and painting at Port Chalmers, tho Storm came up to town yesterday, and is to soil to-day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Pioton, and Wanganui. The Calm _ from Bluff, is due here tomorrow, and is to sail to-morrow for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. Tho Breeze, from Lyttelton, is due here on Monday, and is to sail the same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, Pioton, and Wanganui. The Whangape, from Newcastle, via Sydney, Hobart, and Bluff, is ' duo hero about Thursday next. The Kotare, from Invercargill, is due hero to-day, and is to sail to-day for Bluff and Invercargill. Tho Wingatua, from Auckland, is to sail from Wellington, to-day for Lyttelton and Dunedim Due here on Saturday, she will sail Monday for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. The- Katoa is to leave Auckland about tomorrow for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The Kini sailed yesterday afternoon for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne. The Government steamer Tutanekai is due at Dunedin on Saturday from Wellington and South Island lighthouses. After loading a quantity of stores she- .will sail for southern end West Coast lighthouses. Some time ago, states Lloyd’s Shipping Gazette of May 4, it was announced that the Nippin Yusen Keisha had placed orders on the Clyde for two motor vessels of 10,000 tons-deadweight, one of which went to Messrs Harland and Wolff (Ltd.). It had been intended that this vessel should bo built at the firm’s Greenock yard, hut it has now been arranged that the ship will bo built at tho Mcadoweide yard of Messrs D. and W. Henderson and Co., Patrick, which :is controlled by Messrs HarlanU and Wolff, and of which. Viscount Pirrie is a director. This yard, is practically empty at tho present time, and the order will be very welcome. , An interesting illustration of the prompt and efficient way in which the port of Liverpool authorities control the activities of that port has been cabled to Messrs J. Sanderson and Co,, of Melbourne, by the master of the Blue Funnel line Nestor. The Nestor arrived from Australian ports on June 3. She berthed at Liverpool landing stage at 12.10 p.m., landed 232 passengers and 1000 packages of baggages, and left the stage at 1.10 p.m. The baggage was conveyed by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board mechanical conveyors from the liner to tho Customs baggage examining room, and thence to the adjacent Riverside railway station. The last packages were placed in the special express trains by 1.38 p.m., and the passenger train for London left at 1.45 p.m. Thus within the short space of one hour and 35 minutes the passengers from the liner and their baggage had passed through the port—an accomplishment of which any port might well bo proud.

THE LING NAM. Bound from Callao (Eem), via Papeete, the Chungwha Navigation Company’s steamer Ling Nam is due at Wellington on July 12. From that port eho will proceed to Hongkong, via Australia.

THE ATHENIC. The next Shaw, Savill, and Albion, liner to reach New Zealand will bo the Athenic, which is due at Wellington from London and Southampton with passengers, mails, andcargo about July 8. She sailed from Southampton on May 31 and cleared Colon on June 16. After landing her passengers and part of her cargo at Wellington the Athenic will go to Auckland to complete discharge.

AMERICAN SCHOONER IN BALLAST. Tho six-masted American schooner Oregon Fir, after having been tied up at Newcastle for a considerable time awaiting a coal cargo for tha West Coast, has mad© arrangements

to leave without that cargo and is taking in 600 .tons of coal as ballast for a voyage to San Francisco. ARAWA DUB SUNDAY. Dalgety and Co. advise that the S.S. and A. liner Arawa is to leave Napier to-morrow, and is due at Port Chalmers on Sunday to discharge 1500 tons of general cargo from London. Tho vessel will subsequently load at Port Chalmers for the United Kingdom. WITHIN WIRELESS BANGS. Tho following vessels were expected to ho within range of the under-mentioned wireless stations last -night:—Auckland: Canadian Ranger, Canadian Spinner* Cape May, Cragnesa, Atholl, Laburnum, Flora, Middlesex, Tofua, Ventura, Wilfred, Waimate, Kaloma, Riruutaka, liaitangatq, Howra, Port Macquarrie. Wellington: Wahine, Mararoa, Ngaio, Kotomiko, Maunganni, Mocraki, Wingatui, Government a.s. Tutanokai, Devon City, Kurow, Arawa, City of Bagdad, Orowaiti, Athenic, Port Auckland, and lonic. Chatharas: Otarama, Athenic, lonic, and Westmoreland. PACIFIC MAIL STEAMERS. Tho Niagara is to leave Sydney to-day for Auckland and Vancouver. The Maunganni, from San Francisco, is duo at Wellington on Saturday. The Makura is at present en route from Vancouver to Auckland. Tho Taliiti, from San Francisco, is due at Wellington on July 16. NEW LINE TO AUSTRALIA. The steamer Waimate sailed from Montreal on May 28 for Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. She also sailed from Newport News on June 7. ■ This is the inaugural steamer in the direct service from Montreal to Australia, which has been arranged by the Now Zealand Shipping Company (Limited). The next sailing from -Montreal for Sydney direct will be tho steamer Trewyn. bn July 15, to be followed by tho steamer Whakatane on August 15. ■ \ TUG GLEBE PURCHASED. Messrs C. Lundiu and Sons, who have carried on th© business of stevedores and contractors at Sydney for many years, have recently purchased the tug Glebe for carrying out their work of towing at Sydney. This tug has been engaged at Newcastle towing for some years, and mis been thoroughly overhauled. Extensive alterations have been mad© in the engine room, the boiler overhauled, and a new combustion chamber installed, as well as a new telegraph. The hull and fittings have also received attention, and the vessel is now in first-class order, and ready to carry out her work. NEW C. AND D. STEAMERS. Particulars have just come to hand of the two steamers building for the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, for their Australian trade. Tho steamers are to be named Port Brisbane and Port Wellington, and are similarin construction to tho company’s new steamers—the Pert Hardy, Port Auckland, Port Campbell, and Port Hunter. The Port Brisbane will bo 480 ft long, with 29ft draught. Sho will be 5150 tons net and 8150 tons gross. Her deadweight carrying capacity will be 11,600 tons. Insulated space is provided for 8200 tons, and uninsulated space for 9000 tons. The Port Wellington will he 470 ft long and her draught will be 29.3 ft. Her tonnage will be 5000 tons net and 7730 tons gross, and deadweight tonnage will bo 10,800 tons. She will have space for 7600 tons of insulated cargo and 8400 tons of space for uninsulated cargo.
