Yesterday, at noon, John Gillies, Esq., Returning Officer, declared tho result of the polling tor a representative of Dunedin and Suburbs South in the General Assembly to be as follows: Paterson. Vogel. Dunedin 82 64 Green Island 10 3 Cavorsham 1 3 Anderson’s Bay ... 7 2 North-East Harbour 2 0 Portobello 3 0 105 72 He therefore declared James Paterson, Esq., to bo duly elected. . . . FIRE AT THE COURT-HOUSE. About ton o’clock yesterday forenoon, a very unfortunate fire occurred at the unfinished building at tho southerly end of the Court House block, which was intended for, and has been used as, the Resident Magistrate's Court. The fire was peculiarly unfortunate, because it had been hoped that the constantly-recurring inconvenience to tho Magistrate and the public consequent upon the migration of the Court whenever the Supreme Court was in session had been ended; and the accident occurred on the day fixed for commencing the Civil Business of that Court, which will probably occupy three weeks, the list of cases being swelled by many that were down for hearing last session, when it was found impracticable to dispose of any civil cases. ...
