COMIC OPERA LAWSUIT.
- A SINGER’S STOCKINGS. PROOF BY DEMONSTRATION. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright PARIS, June 21., (Received June 22, at 8.30 p.m.) Mademoiselle Marthe Chenal, a wellknown Opera Comique singer, was the heroine in a comic opera lawsuit. A hosiery establishment in the Champs Elysees sued her to recover £lO, the cost of a parcel of stockings which the Cm alleged Mdlle. Chenal ordered. The stockings were an out-size, and were fitted with an elastic device to prevent them from bursting when used on exceptionally stout legs. Mdlle. Chenal indignantly denied that she could ever have ordered, such goods. After hearing the evidence of both paj-ties, the judge decided that he must personally see the stockings fitted. The evidence of his eyes convinced him that they could never be of any use to Mdlle. 'Chenal, and a verdict was given in her favour.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
