TO THE EDITOR. g in( _Cr Mitchell's action in trying to pass a motion at the last City Council mooting to wake up the Government rcSvdiug the approving of the plans for tlio proposed tram-line is highly commondable. Why the Mayor declined to accept the "motion is not clear to an outsider, but, if it was on some point of procedure that could have been waived, thou the Mayor was not acting in the public interest. It is to bo hoped Councillor Mitchell will bring the matter up again. Judging by the dilatory action of the Government in dealing with this urgent, matter and its attitude regarding the new Post Office, it seems Dunedin is looked upon as a sort of political door-mat for the Government to wipe its feet on—l am, etc., Items.
