Fjiiday, June 22. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) Drunkenness. —A first offender was fined 20s, with the option of 2b hours’ imprisonment. for this offence. Alleged Indecent Assault.—Edward Clayton Carrie Pellowo was charged with assaulting a young woman in an indecent manner. —Air Irwin appeared to defend.— Senior-sergeant Mathieson applied for a remand, which was granted till June 27, bail being allowed, the accused in the sum of £2OO, and one surety of £2OO, or two sureties of £IOO each. The Hayne Case. —James Reynolds Hayue was again brought before the court on a charge of attempting t<> procure abortion.— Scnor-sorgeant Dunlop asked for an adjournment for a week. —The application was granted, and the case was adjourned to June 29.—8 ail wa sallowed, accused in the sum of £IOOO, and two sureties of £SOO each. —Mr Hanlon and Mr Irwin appeared for accused. Hayne was further charged, together with Elizabeth Simpson Inglis, with having committed a similar offence.— Tlte hearing of the charge was adjourned to June 29, bail being allowed—Hayne in his own recognisance of £IOOO. and the female, accused in a surety of £SOO, or (.wo sureties of £250 each. Breach of a Prohibition Order.—James Nciison was charged with procuring liquor (Turing the currency of a. prohibition order against him. —Mr H. L. Cook said the order had been taken out voluntarily. Defendant was a returned soldier, who had been badly gassed in the war. The father was an old man who had tried to carry on a shop during his son’s absence at the war, but bad incurred considerable debt. That bad been largely wiped out 011 the son’s return. —Defendant was fined 20s and costs (7s). Defence Act. —Alfred Hodges was fined 10s for failing to, register under the Defence Act.—Robert Phillips was fined costs (7s); Robert Britton Fraser was fined 10s, and costs (7s); Edward Thompson 10s and costs (7s) : and Joseph Thompson 10s, and costs (7s). ____
