My correspondent continues;— On Thursday morning, June 7, the party were taken a trip round the Harbour in one of the Government launches, leaving Fort Macquarrio wharf at 10 a.m. and returning at about 12 noon. Sydney has every reason to be proud of its harbour. The trip was simply glorious and everyone of the party were delighted with the beauties of the place. To one coming from Dunedin it was simply perfect. The only drawback from our point of., view is that all the foreshore is private property—no roadway or drive of any description reserved for the public. The hospitality on board .the launch was, if anything, - overdone. Wo simply cannot partake of all the good things provided for ns. One of our difficulties is the transporting of our party from hotels to the meeting place. The trams are like the trams in Dunedin, never full. You ran always squeeze one or two more in like sardines in a tin. but when a party of 60 try to board a tram which is already full, it is simply impossible for the whole 50 of us to squeeze aboard, with the result that a number of us cannot get in and our party gets broken up. And to those of us who do not, know the locality or our way. about, wo are apt to get lost for a while in the immense traffic. Thursday afternoon (June 7) we played at, Marrickville some five miles out from our hotel, and to get over the difficulty of transport we arranged for two large motor buses to take out our party, but unfortunately through some mistake of the motor proprietors they did not arrive, so we had to scramble down to George street to get trams, with the result that some of us arrived fully half an hour late. The Marriokville bowlers had gone to immense trouble and expense to entertain us. The green and pavilion were beautifully decorated, and a jazz band played popular airs all the afternoon. We had a, great spread for our afternoon tea—fruit salads, etc., which - we had to try and do justice to. So far every club wo have visited has licensed bars, the same as' a hotel bar. You pay for what you drink as you go along.- These bars are a profitable asset to the club. The greens we have played on are all 120 ft square, and are very hevay for our Dunedin players It re-quires considerable push to get your bowls up. Yesterday New Zealand played nine rinks—the Marrickville president having arranged with four New Zealanders who were on a visit to join in the game* We arp, however, not counting that rink in when we make up our returns, with the result that yesterday’s match was won by only one point. Following are the scores. The additional rinks being those skipped by Keir and Davidson: N.S.W. N.Z. L. Tozer, H. Mercer, P. Walker, S. Hutchison ... .... -... 16 G. Clissold, T. Bullock, J. W. Moss, W. ■ Smith, D. .M'lCay oq S. Wright. ,T. Dunlop, T. Jose, W* K- Bull _ 07 Totn,s - 176 On Friday (Juno 8) we played on St, George’s Green. Wo look the train to Rockdale, sonic six miles out from Redferu railway station. Here we again met with a great, reception and had a most enjoyable time. The St. George Club has two full-sized greens and a largo and commodious pavilion, with two full-sized billiard tables. The green is beautifully situated o.nd the surroundings are very pretty. The green and pavilion cost over £BOOO, the present debt, on same being £3OOO. The membership exceeds 170. The president, (Mr T. Yates) with his wife visited Dunedin with the New South Wales 1 touring team and they were both very enthusiastic in their endeavour to make all (lie visitors happy. We lost this match bv four points.
