A prepared speech competition for commerce students was Jleld at the University on Tuesday evening, under, the auspices of tl-e Now Zealand Society of Accountants. Air .fames Hogg (chairman of the society) presided over the meeting and several competitors faced the judges—Messrs G. W. Reid, J. J Tregear. and 'l'. (1. Brickell. The competition wits held for the purpose of encouraging commerce students in the art of public speaking. 'The winners were placed as follow:--Mr Neil Douglas, “Company Procedure, 1 ’ first; Mr (j. Dunn, “Warehouse Accounts,” and Air P.arth, ‘'Contracts, I ’, equal for- second place. Mr 0. W. Reid gave a very helpful criticism of the various speakers.' A. cold in the head makes one miserable.
